5. Confirmatory Videos

  1. Definition: Videos which purport to verify or corroborate claims, facts or events.
  2. Purpose: Your aim is to add credibility, trust and transparency to reporting.

Techniques:

  1. Use reliable sources and cite them on-screen.
  2. Incorporate visuals like documents, graphs, or location footage to support claims.
  3. Avoid speculative language or hearsay, stick to verified information.

Workflow:

  1. Gather evidence or testimonials to verify the claim you are making
  2. Cross-reference information with multiple sources.
  3. Present findings in a clear, logical sequence, and standard methods.
  4. Include disclaimers if certain aspects remain inconclusive or inadvertently erroneous.

Tools to Use:

  1. Fact-Checking: PolitiFact – Validate claims with robust evidence.
  2. Infographics: Datawrapper – Create charts and visuals to support claims.
  3. Scriptwriting: Notion – Organise and write confirmatory scripts.
  4. Editing: Camtasia – Combine visual elements with a clear timeline editor.

Process:

  1. Research facts using PolitiFact to confirm or debunk specific claims.
  2. Create data visualisations in Datawrapper for a factual, professional look.
  3. Write a structured script in Notion for logical progression.
  4. Edit the video in Camtasia, integrating visual confirmations with smooth transitions.

Use Case: Verifying the authenticity of a viral video using reverse image search and metadata analysis.
